La Roux « Bulletproof » directed by UFO
La Roux Bulletproof / Polydor Records London
Directed by UFO ProductionUFO
UFO
folks created an epic project for the UK’s latest rising electropop act, La
Roux. Commissioned by London’s Polydor Records, the directors and studio were
busy creating the sensational video for release in July 2009.
Awarded
at the end of March, the entire shoot in London was organised in two weeks,
with the help of production company Independent Films. The long day of shooting
went as smoothly as possible, and we were editing at Home Digital in Paris very
soon after. Our timeline gave us three more weeks to finalise all the 3D and
comping with the help of Toxic, Flame, After FX and of course quite a bit of
Maya.
Storyboard
There was a great deal of preparation for the shoot and post production. At the very beginning we created a 3D animatic showing the narrative of the film we anticipated to create, from this we used the stills to create a shooting board in which we could use to start planning the lighting and setups with DoP Laurent Rodriguez.
In the lead up to the shoot we worked with set-designer Alun Davies to design specific items for the set…the most important of which was the intricate chair, which was designed by Vincent Viriot.

Simulation of Black Corridor
This is a preview we created in 3D of the Black Corridor in the film. We wanted to create this to show how we wanted to light set.
