Brand New Video Directed by The Holograms
Posted May 5th, 2009
UFO folks The Holograms have just finished an epic project for the UK's latest rising electropop act, La Roux. Commissioned by London's Polydor Records, the directors and the studio were busy creating the unique video for release in July.
Awarded at the end of March, we had around two weeks to arrange the shoot in London, with the help of production company Independent Films. The 16hr shoot day went as successfully as could have been expected and we were able to start work on the edit at Home Digital in Paris soon after the shoot. We then had three more weeks to finalise all the 3D and comping with the help of Toxic, Flame, After FX and of course quite a bit of Maya.
The promo got its first airing on the BBC website, with an exclusive interview with Elly aka La Roux, and we also got a lovely write up about the project in Shots.net.
Check out the photos from the shoot on our blog and below we've some extra bits of information about the project.

Storyboard
There was a great deal of preparation for the shoot and post production. At the very beginning we created a 3D animatic showing the narrative of the film we anticipated to create, from this we used the stills to create a shooting board in which we could use to start planning the lighting and setups with DoP Laurent Rodriguez.

In the lead up to the shoot we worked with set-designer Alun Davies to design specific items for the set...the most important of which was the intricate chair, which was designed by The Holograms Vincent Viriot.

Simulation of Black Corridor
This is a preview we created in 3D of the Black Corridor in the film. We wanted to create this to show how we wanted to light set.
